1984 – Scenario
One company owns everything and there are no journalists
Background:
The year is 2030 and we get to follow an afternoon in Fredrik’s life.
Fredrik works at FMG in central Stockholm, Sweden. He has worked here since the early 2020’s; he commenced his career in sales but has since then worked his way up to become an AI-recreator.
1984 – One company owns everything and there are no journalists
“Shit, what a day”. The last meeting of the day is running late and Fredrik reads the latest news while waiting for the clock to turn five so that he can go home. He scrolls through his feed in the Humazoogle app, and like every Friday it gives him the best nightclub recommendations and shows him where his friends are going be: At Olle’s party of course. “It’s so nice not to have to come up with my own ideas anymore – Humazoogle really knows what I want to do on a Friday night like this one”.
The clock strikes five and the meeting is finished. “It’s become much more entertaining to stay updated since Humazoogle took over all data. I feel excited for tonight, not like this morning when I was met by the latest stock updates”, he thinks while running down the stairs.
He walks out on Stureplan and looks at the big screen on the house across the road. “Right, Humazoogle is launching their cool VR-dating update today! Shit, it would have been fun if that was out when I was single – what if there is somebody out there who would fit me better based on Humazoogle’s data matching”.
He walks down to the subway and steps onto the train when he gets a notification from Humazoogle. “Lack of time: Long lines in town, you don’t have time to buy a present before the party at 7pm. We will send you the shirt that Olle has been planning to buy so that you can bring it. Delivered to your door at 17.30 together with a pack of new socks.”
Fredrik is satisfied, he had completely forgotten about the lack of socks at home. The fight with his partner who took the last pair of clean socks this morning was probably pretty good in the end, Humazoogle overheard it.
Well at home he is met by his partner who works at Humazoogle. He/she likes long weekends and is often home on Fridays. Since Amazon, Huawei and Google merged and bought all companies owning relevant user data the media world has become better. All the fights between the previous giants are gone and there’s a nice feeling of having all the data in one safe place.
When the big merge was made journalists were no longer needed. Humazoogle instead offered them the opportunity to re-educate themselves to work as data analysists at Humazoogle. By ensuring that the data pool is growing and offering users personalized updates, recommendations, and now even dating, the users are satisfied and happy and journalists thrive in their roles and see potential to climb in their careers. Fredrik thinks it’s simply a great solution for everybody.
After a quick shower he puts on his new socks, grabs the package containing Olle’s shirt and and closes the door, it’s time to party.
Conclusion:
1. Huawei, Google and Amazon have formed a large company, Humazoogle. All personal data is now gathered in one place.
2. Journalists have been replaced and are now offered jobs as data analysts at Humazoogle.
3. Users share their data with Humazoogle and thereby get personalized content and recommendations.
