Let’s mind our businesses
8-12 November 2021
The media industry is characterised by constant change and demands for deliveries to customers and partners, requiring a high level of quality. This contributes to high levels of ambition and drive – but also a great risk of suffering from negative stress and mental illness. During week 45, Future Media Group, FMG, BlueCall and Winningtemp would like to invite and encourage the industry to participate in the new Media Mind Week initiative.
– “We are introducing this initiative together with the aim of highlighting the problem of negative stress at work, inspiring change and giving our employees and the rest of the media industry the tools needed to strengthen the mind and mindset,” says Sofia Borg, HR Coordinator at Future Media Group. More than a year and a half into the pandemic, Sweden is starting to return to its workplaces.
The past few months have been stressful in many ways and several studies have indicated that mental health has reached alarmingly high levels. While some companies were in the dark about the introduction of home offices, FMG quickly put in place measures to help its employees feel good despite the major changes – and realised that the changes made were not only appreciated by the organisation but also contributed to the continued delivery of high performance.
– We took a small step forward but know that there is so much more to do for mental wellbeing in the industry. On 8-12 November, FMG will present the first ever Media Mind Week, a week filled with exercises, tips and lectures to provide our organisation and industry colleagues with inspiration and practical advice. It is important to be able to stop and reflect at regular intervals, so that we do not fall into a negative stress spiral but can maintain our high level of ambition while feeling good, says Sofia Borg.
Tips and inspiration Media Mind Week 2021 is arranged in collaboration with the digital therapy app BlueCall and Winningtemp, which offers the market’s most advanced solution for managing and optimising human resources. They will start the week with a webinar each, where Winningtemp will talk about how the experience of stress has evolved from the start of covid to today and BlueCall about the impact of the pandemic on mental health, both in the short and long term. BlueCall’s Head of Psychology will also give concrete tips on what HR, managers and employees can do to strengthen the mental health of their teams, organisations and individuals.
– More and more companies have realised that they need to work preventively to strengthen the mental health of their employees. Media Mind Week is a welcome initiative, which shows that the issue is on the agenda and hopefully inspires more people to start addressing the issue. Now that we can breathe a little easier after the covid-19 pandemic, the big work begins to take care of the mental illness, which we have already seen increase and which, according to research, will unfortunately continue to increase even more, says Milla Leskinen, psychologist and Head of Psychology at BlueCall.
Stream this week’s lunchtime lectures
Every day between 12-13 pm, FMG invites the industry to participate in the digital seminars that will be livestreamed on the mediamindweek.com website. During the theme days Mind Monday, Team Tuesday, Work+Life Wednesday, Thoughtful Thursday and Feelgood Friday, we will learn more about breathwork, how to access the subconscious mind and what physical exercises can help us feel clearer in our heads after a long day at work.Sofia Borg says that the purpose of the week is to inspire and the point of the lectures is that they should be easily accessible and easy to absorb.
– During Media Mind Week, we at FMG will start the days with getting into the right mindset and end them with nice exercises to clear the head. We will be inspired by the lunchtime lectures and encourage our industry colleagues to join in and bring this initiative to their organisations. We look forward to getting started and scaling up the concept already next year!
