Emil swapped bandy for sales: “I get to release my energy”

He had his sights set on a future in Sweden’s bandy elite but slipped into the sales industry and quickly climbed the career ladder.

However, the job did not give him the same kick as the sport – so when he was headhunted by Framtidsmedia, Emil Berglund, 22, decided to change his mind and move to Stockholm.
– “Here it’s not about pushing things on people, but instead creating relationships to do business,” he says.

Emil Berglund is 22 years old and comes from Västerås. He started playing bandy at the age of five and early on aimed for a career as an elite player. After graduating from sports high school, he started working as a salesman, in parallel with his training.
– “I have never really understood studies and prefer to spend a lot of time on sports. I saw the sales profession as a way to earn big money and make a career without having to study further,” he says.

Headhunted to Stureplan
He used to train about twelve times a week and sell subscriptions during the day, but a couple of years ago he decided to hang up his club and focus on his career. He says he often missed bandy because it had previously given him an outlet for his energy, but with total focus on the sales profession, Emil quickly climbed the career ladder.

In November last year, he received a call from a recruiter who had heard about him.
– “He wanted me to come for an interview for a job at Framtidsmedia in Stockholm and I decided to take it and move to Stockholm almost immediately.

The reason Emil was drawn to Framtidsmedia was the potential he saw in the relatively new company – which was also full of entrepreneurial spirit and strong characters. He appreciated the feeling of being able to make an impact and says that the work day was suddenly no longer about selling people stuff, but instead about creating and developing relationships to do real business.

Strong team spirit
To this day, Emil can find himself missing the training, but says that he still manages to release his energy during working hours instead.
– The team spirit at Framtidsmedia is just as strong as on the ice or in the locker room. You have fun at work, you get to help develop the products and develop your own projects. I have developed a lot since I started working here and I have learned more during these months than I learned at my previous workplaces.

Emil believes that having a sales background is a good gateway to many future professional roles.
